Latin Vulgate Bible Book Titles/Names
The Old Testament books tell the ancient history of the people of Israel.
This history is based on their faith in the God of Israel and revolves
around their religious life as the chosen people of God. The various
authors of these books tell the people what God had done for them as
a nation and gives detailed instruction on how they were to worship and obey
God. The prophesies of the prophets were awaiting the fulfillment of Christ.
The books of the New Testament were written by the first Catholics in the years following the death of Christ. These Catholics wanted others to know about Jesus and the possibility of a new life available to them through his life, death and resurrection. The following list shows the different groups of books that make up the New Testament. Saint Paul has traditionally been identified as the author of the letters indicated below. The first four books are books of Faith and historical while the remaining also consisting of Faith take the form of letters to various churches or followers.
